He also will be involved with recruiting and the scouting of opponents throughout the season. Morgan has a long history with the Crabs: he was a catcher for the team in , and before working as an assistant coach during the and seasons under manager Matt Nutter. Morgan has deep roots in Humboldt County. In addition to his coaching duties, Morgan also teaches each semester, including lecture classes in the kinesiology department. Morgan also spent three summers as manager of the Humboldt Eagles; in , he guided the prep elite team to its first appearance at the American Legion state tournament since , which he calls his most important accomplishment as a baseball coach.
